Intra-regional actualistic studies and site formation carcass observation and record on the Southern Margin of the Atacama Puna Andean Highlands, Northern Chile

Abstract

This text is a brief note about the ongoing work of observation and registration of animal carcasses in two different ecological settings, separated by few kilometers but with notorious differences in terms of altitude, humidity, temperature, solar radiation, and salinity. The observation work aims to identify, from an actualistic perspective, the intra-regional differences in the processes of formation and alteration of bone remains, that may contribute to explain the scarce archaeofaunistical record recovered in the archaeological sites of the area.
